joyce + chang | toronto engagement session at the pie shack

We loved this shoot!  Joyce and Chang asked us to shoot their engagement photos in a quaint little café in the Beach called “The Pie Shack,” a place where they had one of their first dates, and they have continued to frequent ever since…so cute! We were also charmed by this place as soon as we walked through the door.  It has a very cozy, eclectic vibe to it, where locals come to lounge, play cards, and of course eat pie!  The owner Tim was so sweet to let us have free reign of the shop, while he walked his dog, Campbell, who offers daily words of wisdom on the Pie Shack website. Joyce and Chang enjoyed some pie and ice cream, and then snuggled up on the sofa for some really sweet photos.  We wanted to thank you two for introducing us to this quaint  little spot, and we look forward to photographing your wedding in the September!

amy + harvey | distillery district engagement

How are we so lucky to be blessed with the best clients?  We had so much fun with Amy + Harvey on their engagement shoot in the Distillery District, doing a little walking, a little talking, and taking a few photographs.  They were so easy to spend time with – relaxed and comfortable with each other,  and their chemistry with one another shone through the lens.  They just fell into sync with one another – we barely had to direct them.  It also helps that they are gorgeous – I swear in all of the photographs we took of them that day there were no duds!  No goofy looks, no bloopers, just all gorgeousness all of the time.  We are so excited to spend another few days with these two lovebirds in the early spring in Mexico, with their bare feet in the warm sand as they say “i do”on the beach in a very small intimate ceremony….surrounded by palm trees and crystal blue water….bliss.  We will kindly have a margarita or two for you.

atee + pendar | toronto board of trade

What a gorgeous summer day it turned out to be for Atee and Pendar’s super cute vintage-themed Persian wedding (interesting combination, we know).  Both Atee and Pendar have a background in graphic design, and so we knew that the wedding would be infused with many artistic elements (you can see some of Pendar’s creative talents here: www.mahimoto.com).  We had our fingers crossed for clear skies so that we could take photographs of Atee and Pendar on their cherry red Vespa, which they use to scoot around Toronto together…adorable! It also acted as the inspiration for their invitations, which were designed by Pendar.  Lucky for us the weather held out, and we were able to photograph the couple driving their scooter at The Evergreen Brickworks.  Atee’s dress was simply stunning, and we loved, loved, loved the fascinator she chose to go with her birdcage veil.  Pendar was also stylin’ with his cute polka dot socks that matched the colour scheme of their wedding  (which Atee picked out for him and he gallantly agreed to wear) – we couldn’t let the day pass without a photograph of them.  Their Persian ceremony was held at the Toronto Board of Trade, where their reception followed shortly after.  A vintage corner was set up with some nostalgic paraphernalia where guests could type the newlyweds a message on an old typewriter… and there were some interesting messages!  Once Atee and Pendar made their entrance into the reception room they had a slow and charming first dance, which was immediately followed by dance floor pandemonium!   Just about everyone was on the dance floor and the party was in full swing before dinner was even served.

Congrats Atee and Pendar.  The love and laughs you shared together was contagious and it was a pleasure to capture that magic through the lens.

karen + adam | maternity

Nearly 2 years after I photographed their wedding, I received a phone call from Adam and Karen letting me know they were expecting! I couldn’t be happier for them, and I was excited to document this extraordinary moment in their lives together.  Having just had my own baby 10 weeks ago, I could totally relate to everything Karen and Adam were experiencing, and I really wanted to capture the beauty of their pregnancy.

Both Karen and Adam were beaming with the excitement of the arrival of their little bean, and it was really special for me to be there to witness and encapsulate that energy through the lens.  Karen looked absolutely radiant and beautiful and Adam stood sideline with supportive and encouraging comments…so cute!

Karen and Adam, I’m so happy for you two and I can’t wait to meet and photograph your new addition in the weeks to come.  Good luck with your delivery and perhaps we can celebrate his/her arrival with a celebratory Nutella sandwich!

Baby Bijou | Toronto Baby Photography

My precious baby girl has finally arrived!!!  Nearly two weeks overdue, Bijou (french for “jewel”) Cecille Chen joined our family on March 28th, at 11:37pm weighing 7lbs 9 ounces.  She has an angelic face, sparkling blue eyes, and we are TOTALLY mesmerized by her.  I know more photos of my beautiful daughter will grace the blog soon!

A shout out has to go to our Doula, Bianca Sprague of Bebo Mia, and our hypnobirthing coach Amanda Burke (also of Bebo Mia) for their  support throughout the pregnancy and for prepping us to have the most amazing birth experience.  Another special thank you to all our family, friends and clients for the warm wishes and notes of congratulations over the past few weeks.

Welcome little Bumble Bij to the Verve Photo Co family!
