grace + ryan | one year anniversary & full moon celebration | trump hotel

Grace and Ryan were married a year ago, and if you picked up the Winter/Spring 2012 issue of WedLuxe Magazine, you will know that there aren’t words to adequately describe their lavish celebration.  If you missed out on the magazine, you can view some of the gorgeousness here.  Fast forward a year later, and the couple is now proud parents to their second baby, Dylan.  In Dylan’s honour, and in celebration of their first year together as a married couple, Grace and Ryan decided to throw another blinged-out bash, this time at The Trump Hotel.  Thanks to wedding-planner-extraordinaire, Cindy Johnson, everyone had an amazing time, including us!  The food was incredible, the atmosphere was gorgeous (a result of the beautiful work of our friends, Fuscia Designs), and the party was hopping (how could it not be, there were about 7 guys behind the DJ table at all times!).  It was quite the event, with its fair share of entertaining moments, ie, when Grace got stuck in the elevator for an hour and a half, after her 2-year-old son pulled the fire alarm.  We can’t imagine how stressful that would have been, but they rolled with it – Ryan continued to keep the cognac flowing, Grace exited the elevator laughing, and the night was a huge success despite the hostess being absent for a good part of it, and the fire alarm continuing to ding for what seemed like forever.  These types of moments are what make the memories stick!

Here are some images from the night.  If I didn’t know better, I would say that there is some distant relation to the Kardashians – check out the poses on the stairs.

Check out this cake!  Cindy surprised the couple with this amazing replication of an Hermes Kelly handbag, made into a diaper bag, and crafted by Lisa of Flour Confections.  It looks too pretty to eat, but Lisa’s cakes are De-licious!Step aside, Kardashians!

My little Bijou has turned One! | Toronto Baby Photography

I can hardly believe it, but my beautiful baby girl, Bijou turned one…4 months ago! As a busy mom in the peak of wedding season, this posting is just a wee bit late but I wanted to share these photos none-the-less.  To commemorate this milestone, I did a studio shoot to capture her in all her 12-month glory.  I squeezed about 45 minutes out of her before she really let me know enough was enough!  Her signature pigtails are a result of my refusal to cut her hair.  As a victim of semi-bowl-bangs cut half way to the back of my head for the first 10 years of my life, I am choosing to take a stand against bangs in hope of having her like her own childhood photos more then I do my own.  It’s been a whirlwind of a year but I wouldn’t change a thing…well except for her sleeping habits.  (We are still trying to master that one.)

xo Love her!

amy + harvey | married at dreams tulum resort, mexico

It’s hard to sum up how amazing our time was with Amy and Harvey in Tulum, Mexixo.  First of all, they are a super sweet couple, fun to share a cocktail with and open to all of our crazy shoot ideas…including cliff ridges for sunrise, side-of-the road cenotes and many underwater fiascos! They truly understand and appreciate our creative vision, trusting in us 110% and were willing to be our subjects for an epic 4 days of shooting!

We joined up with Amy and Harvey on their wedding day at Dreams Tulum where we were not only their photographers, but also the only witnesses to their ceremony. It was a very intimate beach wedding where they could focus solely on each other and creating beautiful photographic memories of this very special occasion.  Amy and Harvey walked out to the beach together, hand in hand where they met their officiant for a sweet and simple ceremony. After we toasted their nuptials with some champagne, we walked the beach to capture them in the beautiful evening light…truly a photographers dream.  Despite some wind and unruly hair, it was next to impossible to take a bad photograph of these two (not that we were trying), they are gorgeous, photogenic and truly in love with one another…did we already mentioned a photographers dream?!  Once the sun had set, Amy and Harvey had arranged an intimate dinner for two in the same location where their ceremony was held earlier.  It was a cozy, quiet nook illuminated by candles and overlooking the ocean with only the sound of the wind and waves. After they settled in to their dinner and we took the last few photographs of them of the night, we left them to enjoy their romantic evening together while we sought out ice-cream at the resort buffet!  Less than 12 hours later, we would meet with them again for shoot day #2 in Tulum…coming to our blog soon!

Our congrats to Amy & Harvey once again.  We absolutely loved our time with you!

karolyn + dave | thompson hotel toronto

We were really excited to photograph Karolyn and Dave’s wedding day.  We’ve gotten to know them through a long list of their friends’ weddings that we’ve had the pleasure of photographing over the years, and we photographed Karolyn’s sister’s wedding in 2010 (Jennifer + Scott), which still sticks out in our minds as one of the most entertaining celebrations we’ve ever been a part of (especially the first dance – *wink wink* Jennifer).  Like Jennifer, Karolyn’s energy is infectious, she seems to have a fantastic live-life-to-the-fullest attitude, and judging from the way she attacked her wedding cake, nothing is done in small measures (though that may have been the champagne talking at that point in the evening).  I think it would be impossible to be grumpy in Karolyn’s presence, and judging from what I have observed in her sister and the rest of her family, she comes by her personality honestly.  In Dave, Karolyn has met her match (or at least someone that is able to keep up with her).  A highlight of the night, for example, was Dave’s performance serenading Karolyn with Neil Diamond’s  “Sweet Caroline”, complete with hand-picked back up singers and wooden spoon microphones.  It was sweet, and funny, and set the tone for a crazy night on the dance floor – even Gramma was out there bustin’ a move, and Karolyn’s dad broke out some moves that I haven’t seen before (and likely won’t see again any time soon).  Karolyn and Dave’s celebration was pure joy, and while there were plenty of happy tears, laughter was the predominating expression of emotion – it just seemed to erupt from everywhere and everybody.

Karolyn and Dave, words can’t describe how much we enjoyed being a part of your wedding.  Putting together our highlights for the blog proved difficult, because there were just so many photographs of amazing moments, gorgeous details and beautiful people.
