As with most weddings this summer, we started photographing Sarah + Emre’s wedding with the threat of rain in the forecast. When the day began, it was quite clear, and it looked like we might get lucky and avoid the rain. However, just as we were leaving Sarah’s home for the ceremony, the thunder boomed and the sky darkened in the distance, in the very direction of her ceremony location. Sarah’s hope of hopes was that they would be able to have an outdoor ceremony, as planned. So, in a moment of stupidity (with the intention of turning Sarah’s frown upside down), I made the mistake of telling her that I have never been rained out for an outdoor wedding in 10 years of shooting. Oops. I knocked on wood, but apparently not soon enough. Sarah and Emre’s ceremony location, overlooking the Dundas Valley, was not to be. Just as Sarah was about to walk down the aisle, torrential rain poured down, guests scattered, making a b-line for shelter, and the flower arrangements decorating the end of aisle came crashing down in the wind. Most brides would have been utterly disappointed, but Sarah + Emre just rolled with it, and made quick arrangements to have their wedding under the reception tent. Sarah was greeted to a round of applause and encouragement from their guests as she entered the tent, setting the tone for the rest of the day. The positive energy of their guests was palpable, and the wedding from that point forward went off beautifully. The sun even came out right after the ceremony, enabling the rest of the photographs to be taken outdoors. Sarah + Emre never stopped smiling the whole day, and it was obvious that their minds were on the fact that they were now married, and so happy to be so.
