Kara + Josh celebrated their wedding on Oct 24. 2009, and 2 years to the day later, they were expecting Lyla to arrive. I was honoured and so excited when Kara contacted me to photograph her in this moment in her life. Kara and Josh are the most adorable couple, and have such good chemistry together that a monkey clicking the shutter on a disposable camera could have done a decent job of photographing them. We chose the escarpment in Hamilton as the backdrop for the photo shoot, and in the waning light, we were able to get some beautiful, soft light images. Kara was an absolutely stunning little pregnant mama, literally glowing in the warm sun of the late day. Congratulations Kara + Josh on your new little bundle. Having met her now, I can say that she is a beautiful combination of the two of you, and her name suits her perfectly. xo

Baby Stella | Toronto Baby Photography

I met baby Stella when she was just 10 days new at her home surrounded by lots of loving family. This beautiful little girl is named after her great grandmother, her mother Sophia told me as we talked and waited for little Stella to fall asleep. There was a photo of Sophia as a baby with her grandmother on her bedside table, which I thought was really special and added to the loving ambiance of the room. Baby Stella was reluctant to fall asleep and after running the shower for a few minutes she finally went down so we could complete the remainder of her photo shoot. Sophia shared with me her birth story and experiences during her pregnancy, a part of newborn photo shoots that I love. Every story is so unique and extraordinary and to be able to share these moments with a new mom is something really wonderful. A special thank you to Sophia for your patience throughout the shoot. Your daughter is truly special and I can’t wait to share with you the remainder of the images.

my little Bijou is 6 months new!

I can’t believe that 6 months ago, I gave birth to this precious little girl. Time is passing far too quickly and I want to keep her nuzzled in my arms forever. Bijou is such a happy little baby, all smiles and beautiful shining eyes. She has her two bottom teeth already and her top two are just peeping through as well. This week she sat unassisted for several minutes for the first time. I’m such a proud mama! I just wanted to share some recent photos of her to commemorate her 6 month birthday. Karen and I are truly blessed.

ethan and his big sister, siena

I first met Siena when she was just a little baby asleep in her grandfather’s arms. Now, at two years old, she is a little fire cracker, full of energy; with sleep the last thing on her mind, especially since she now has a little baby brother she needs to keep a close eye on. At 5 months old, Ethan is a little older than the age I first photographed Siena, but is just as lovable, smiley and sweet. I met Ethan and Siena and their loving parents and doting grandparents for a photo session in Guelph on a beautiful day in July. Siena just did her thing – roamed and explored and took time to smell the flowers every now and then, and Ethan did his thing too – squirmed, and drooled, and gave me some yummy toothless smiles. I look forward to watching these two beautiful children grow up.

Baby Lily has arrived! This little muffin was just 9 days old when I visited proud parents Karen and Adam at their home for Lily’s first photo shoot. Having taken Karen’s maternity photos weeks earlier it was really special to see Lily nestled in her parent’s arms and outside of the belly! Lily weighed in at 7 lbs 11 ounces and was birthed at home in the same room that I did Karen’s maternity photos and these baby photos. Karen and Adam are going to be amazing parents to this little girl and I look forward to spending more time with this cute little family.

My precious baby girl has finally arrived!!! Nearly two weeks overdue, Bijou (french for “jewel”) Cecille Chen joined our family on March 28th, at 11:37pm weighing 7lbs 9 ounces. She has an angelic face, sparkling blue eyes, and we are TOTALLY mesmerized by her. I know more photos of my beautiful daughter will grace the blog soon!

A shout out has to go to our Doula, Bianca Sprague of Bebo Mia, and our hypnobirthing coach Amanda Burke (also of Bebo Mia) for their support throughout the pregnancy and for prepping us to have the most amazing birth experience. Another special thank you to all our family, friends and clients for the warm wishes and notes of congratulations over the past few weeks.

Baby Olivia is a muffin. I photographed her parent’s wedding a number of years ago (it was when I was shooting film, so I don’t even have a link to it!), and I was so excited to hear about the arrival of little Olivia. She is now 8 months old, and wow is she CUTE. She is smiley, has loads of personality, and is the perfect chubby little cherub baby. I love babies at this age – they are interactive, they are happy (as long as they are fed and well rested), and they don’t run away! Olivia was the perfect model, though she did decide to pee on my duvet (how cheeky). Other than that, her debut modeling gig went off amazingly well. I see big things in this little girl’s future. It will definitely be hard for her parents not to give into her every wish and command when she smiles her sweet smile and bats her little eyelashes. Lisa and Gregg, congratulations to you both. She is perfect.

One of the best parts of my job is watching the couples whose weddings I photograph move to the next stage of life with the birth of their first baby. I was so excited to meet this little munchkin. I got to know Ainsley’s parents (Kristen + Mike) when I photographed their wedding almost two years ago. I really enjoyed working with the two of them, and their wedding day still stands out in my mind as one of my favourites for its casual intimacy. Just like her parents, I knew that baby Ainsley would be beautiful, but I was hoping that her mood and temperament would allow us to capture her beauty on the day of the photo session. With two month old babies, anything can happen, so I was prepared for a quick, efficient photo shoot. Ainsley totally surprised me (and her parents too!). She was an angel – so laid back and full of smiles, despite our jostling her around, changing her, bouncing her, and her dad literally turning her upside down. Congratulations on your beautiful little girl Kristen + Mike. She is perfect.

baby giacomo is 2! | toronto baby photography

You may remember baby Giacomo – I photographed him as he was just turning one last year, and what a difference a year makes! I arrived knowing I would be chasing a little person around, trying desperately to capture a few decent photographs that weren’t blurry and out of focus from having to move too fast. I have a toddler, and I know what they are all about. Giacomo surprised me in a big way – he is the most easily photographed toddler I have ever met. He loves the camera, and I mean LOVES it… no matter what he was doing, as soon as he realized I had the lens pointed at him, he stopped, looked directly into the lens, and smiled his big sweet smile. Even as we were getting him ready to go outside for a few shots, and he was fussing about having to get his snowsuit on, all I had to do was point the camera at him, and he flipped the charm switch right back on. I had a wonderful time with Giacomo and his parents – it was a beautiful winter day for photographs – snowing big fluffy snowflakes, and the light was wonderfully muted and soft. Even though it was cold, there were no complaints, and Giacomo was so good-natured through the shoot right until the very end. The next time I see this boy, I expect it will be as he stares back at me from a Baby Gap ad – he was born to model.

I had to post a few images of a recent shoot I did of twins Miles and Miya as they are just too adorable. Despite a few tears, falling asleep in mid-shoot, and lots of spitting up on our props, we managed to get some really cute shots in. Photographing babies is always a challenge, but the memories created will last a lifetime. Congratulations to parents Michelle and Michael on the birth of their babies on August 23rd , and congrats to my good friend Mouse on her gorgeous niece and nephew.
